This painting features sea holly (eryngium). The spiky flowers are a hauntingly beautiful silver-blue. I love the challenge of painting complex colors that are tricky to recreate in watercolor paint. If you look closely, you'll see the painting is spattered with gold metallic "stardust" like the floating dust and insects that sometimes create a magical atmosphere on a summer's evening.
This original watercolor is mounted on a 1.5" deep wooden cradle board and sealed with cold wax medium. The sides are painted black. No frame or glass is needed.
